Main Ingredient in this Recipe

The main ingredient in this breakfast recipe are apples. Apples are stewed in water along with some cinnamon and star anise for the perfect blend of some spice, to enhance its flavour.

Apples are good for health as they are rich in fibre, vitamin C and antioxidants. They can help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. It can also help lower the chances of diabetes. They are also beneficial to gut health.

Consuming apples are low in calories, as they are free from fat, as well as cholesterol, but can keep you satiated and full for long hours.

Spiced Apple Breakfast

  • 2 medium sized apples
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 small star anise
  • 2 cloves
  • Cinnamon powder
  1. Rinse the apples under running water and peel off the skins with a fruit peeler. Then, cut into wedges and then dice into cubes and set it aside.

  2. Into a saucepan, add in 1 cup of water, the diced apples along with the cinnamon stick, star anise and cloves.

  3. Cover with a lid and let it cook for 10 minutes on low heat.

  4. Remove the lid and let it simmer for 2 to 3 minutes before turning offthe heat.

  5. Pour into a small serving bowl and sprinkle a dash of cinnamon powder over the stewed apples and serve hot.

Alternative Ingredient Substitutes

Apples: This recipe uses red apples. But in case you do not have apples or do not eat apples, you can always substitute it with pears, loquat, quince or green apples in the same proportions.

Recipe Additions

Sweetener: This recipe contains no sweetener. But in case you wish to add in any sweetener, some options are – sugar, honey, maple syrup, date syrup or jaggery powder.

Nuts: If you’d wish to, you can simply chop up some nuts of your choice and sprinkle them over the stewed apples for that extra crunch.
