Main Ingredients in this Recipe

Wheat Flour

The base of this cake is wheat flour, instead of refined flour. Wheat flour is a healthier alternative to refined flour and is rich in protein, vitamins and fibre.

Cocoa Powder

Well, almost everyone loves chocolate cake. Cocoa powder helps give the cake its chocolate flavour. This powder is healthy as it can boost immune system functioning and is also rich in minerals.

No Oven Homemade Cake

  • 1/2 cup wheat flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  1. Before you begin with making the cake batter, first make sure to pre-heat your steamer. You will require a steamer or even a large pot would do. Place the pot on low heat and up turn a medium sized flat bowl or vessel (about 2 inches in height) inside it (to place the cake tin upon it).Keep this covered to pre-heat for around 10 minutes, while you make the batter in the meantime.

  2. Into bowl, sift in the wheat flour, cocoa powder and baking powder and set aside.

  3. Into a mixing bowl, add in the sugar, hot water and oil and give it a good mix, until the sugar melts. Then, add in the sifted ingredients and give it a mix. Do not over mix. Just fold it in, until fully combined.

  4. Then, transfer the cake batter into a cake tin lined with parchment paper (if possible, for easy removal. But this step is optional). Cover the top of the tin with foil.

  5. Place the cake tin on top of the flat bowl/vessel inside your steamer/pot and keep it covered to bake for around 30 minutes or until a poked toothpick comes out clean.

  6. Remove the foil and let the cake cool completely before cutting it.

Alternative Ingredient Substitutes

Wheat Flour:

Since wheat flour is a healthier alternative to refined all-purpose flour, this recipe uses wheat flour. Nevertheless, if you wish to use refined flour (maida), you can substitute it in the same quantity as wheat flour in this recipe.

Hot Water:

If you wish to make your cake richer, you can substitute the hot water with warm milk in this recipe, in the same proportions.

Sugar:

In this recipe, I’ve used sugar. But in case you do not wish to use sugar, you could substitute the sugar with jaggery powder in the same quantity.

Note:

  • If you wish to bake this cake, you could do so. Bake in the oven at 160 degrees, until a poked toothpick comes out clean.
